Mae West

Post by Sharon »

Recently for inspiration, I have been reading up on famous rebels to write about. Currently I am reading about Mae West. Did you know that the SAME guy who spearheaded the "Crush the Cannibus" movement, William Random Hearst, also publicly went after Mae West for being "obscene"? She was an independent woman and piloted her career under her own visions. Her name recognition and funny AF films were the saving factor of Paramount Films keeping them from bankruptcy for many years. She was censored, jail and diminished, but she lived on her own terms. In a time when women were expected to be submissive and quiet, she was bold and brazen and proudly proclaimed her independence and sexuality. She often wrote her own scripts or changed the scripts presented to her sculpting her career and life on HER terms. Long live Mae West in her films, ideals and actions!!! <3
